Reflection filters for microphones
Reflection filters for microphones can prevent unwanted noise and other sound elements from being included in the audio recording. This can be very necessary if you are recording in places that are not completely soundproof. Reflection filters are easy to install and fit almost all microphone arms or microphone stands. The microphone screen creates a protective semicircle around the microphone, which absorbs or keeps reflective sound out of the recording. Thus, the recording or interview can be captured without distracting background noise.
Reflection filters fit most microphones
Since the reflection filter or reflection screen is not placed on the microphone, but on the arm or stand, they can be used with almost all microphones. The choice of reflection filter largely depends on the environment you will be recording in. Microphone screens are made in various sizes and materials, and what the optimal reflection filter is depends on which sound sources you want to avoid. Additionally, the filters are differentiated between those that mainly reflect sound, and those that are primarily designed to absorb sound. A microphone screen, of course, does both, but some products are better at one than the other and vice versa.
What is the difference between a reflection filter and a "pop" filter?
The purpose of both types of filters is to optimize the recording or interview by keeping unwanted sounds out of the recording. Specifically, a reflection filter focuses on keeping outside sounds away from the microphone, so that you only capture the voice of the person singing or speaking in the recording as much as possible. In contrast, a "pop" filter deals with unwanted sounds coming from the person themselves. For certain letters, particularly "p" and "b", a lot of air is expelled to pronounce them. If the mouth is placed very close to the microphone, this puff of air comes through as distracting noise. The "pop" filter absorbs the air and thus helps to prevent it from being included in the audio recording. A microphone screen is a super practical tool if you are recording acoustic instruments or singing and do not have access to a professionally soundproofed room. But with a microphone screen, you can easily cut off where the most 'sound pollution' comes from, whether it is reflections from a window or a hard wall.
