DJ Headphones
As a DJ, your headphones are an indispensable part of your gear as a DJ. Often, the nightclub already has the equipment you need - DJ controller - mixer or a complete DJ Booth etc., but DJ headphones are rarely something that is available at the venue where you’re playing.
The difference between DJ Headphones and other headphones
Yes, there is a difference in the sound of a pair of DJ headphones and a pair of regular hi-fi headphones. Among other things, DJ headphones can often play louder, and they need to have a pronounced bass, since bass is what you beatmatch to.
Is it important that the music matches? Yes, as a DJ you should always aim to create a harmonious mix, and your DJ headphones are therefore an important part of performing properly.
High-quality headphones for DJs
DJs will usually want a set of headphones that are rugged, offer high sound quality, are portable, etc. And most of the time, it doesn’t hurt if DJ headphones look a bit flashy. At the same time, they should preferably have over-the-ear cups, so you can easily block out external noise (usually from an audience going crazy over a good mix) over either the left or the right ear.
Or if it needs to be ultra-portable and rugged because you have so much other gear to carry around, a pair of good in-ear DJ headphones can also be used. As long as they’re easy to take off and put on (out and in) without having to fumble with them too much.
Our selection of DJ headphones - also known as headphones especially suited to DJs. Selected for being both rugged, portable, and delivering high-quality sound.
DJ headphones
Here you’ll find the SoundStoreXL selection of DJ headphones, or DJ headphones as most DJs call them.
One of today’s best-selling DJ headphones is the Pioneer HDJ-X10, used by well-known DJs worldwide, and not without reason. It’s a fantastic-sounding DJ headphone that’s also comfortable to wear - even for longer periods at a time. If you want something a bit cheaper but still with good bass, take a look at this HT-70
Headphones for DJ use
A DJ needs headphones with deep and clear bass to be able to mix live. That’s why high sound pressure is required, and this is something “ordinary” headphones can’t handle.
The headphones must be able to reproduce the bass with great accuracy and depth, and this is where DJ headphones really show what they can do compared to “ordinary” hi-fi headphones.

In-ear DJ headphones for the active DJ
If, for example, you’re a DJ who travels a lot, a pair of classic over-the-ear headphones isn’t always practical. They’re bulky and awkward to bring on a plane, especially if you want to protect them and keep them in a case. This lifestyle is better suited to a good pair of in-ear DJ headphones, and even though they may not isolate sound as much as over-the-ear headphones, they don’t shut the DJ off from the audience as much, and allow them to interact with and respond to them more easily.
But unlike more normal in-ear headphones, DJ headphones need to be easy and quick to take out of and put into your ears without too much fumbling. And they need to fit securely, even if you move around a lot behind your DJ decks. That’s why many prefer in-ear DJ headphones either with a hook behind the ear, or with a small stick, so they’re easy to handle.
In-ear headphones especially suitable for DJs or people looking for high-quality headphones.
